I was commissioned to photograph this Canadian family, who got really lucky: they have won a Cinderella themed dream weekend from Disney. They could enjoy some luxurious days in Emirates Palace (Abu Dhabi), which is one of the most prestigious hotels in the world. Surely it is amazingly beautiful, it really resembles a palace. Outside green parks, fountains, pools, private beach and the magnificent view of the Gulf. Inside incredible luxury: gold and marble everywhere. There was a comforting smell of burning incense floating in the air, which gave a real Arabic touch to the place. And there was live music: a young girl was playing the cello in the main hall. Some guests and visitors were filming her. She followed the musical notes on a tablet, placed on a stand in front of her. This scene nicely reflected the combination of tradition and the latest technological advances, which the UAE is very much about.
So I talked about the exquisite sights, the smell and the music. When I entered the palace suite, where the family stayed, I could finally sense the 'touch' aspect of all the luxuries this hotel had to offer. It has never been so much joy to take off my shoes before entering a room: the carpets, oh! They were super soft, my feet just sank into them. My toes felt really grateful: it was like walking on clouds - a great experience.
When I arrived, the hair and make up artists were still in the room, turning the wife and the two girls to beautiful princesses. Mike, the husband, soon arrived from the spa. I had some shots of the suite and the family, then we headed out to the private beach. It was already dark outside, but we could still get some great photos with the beautifully lit hotel in the background and the girls playing around and writing in the sand.
This lovely family was originally from Canada, but they live in Qatar for some years now. I'm sure they had a great time in Abu Dhabi, and collected some wonderful memories, which will last for a lifetime. It was a pleasure getting to know them and sharing some time with them in these glamorous settings. All the best for them in Qatar!
